Ellen considers her home a “jail”

As Los Angeles continues to shelter in place in the hopes of slowing the spread of Covid-19 across the city, celebrities continue to way in on how they are currently coping with the situation as a whole. Most Los Angeles residents are currently facing a harsh reality weighing their options on how to deal with the virus but also realizing how will they pay their rent and bills that are still being issued while the city is considered to be shut down. Ellen DeGeneres is the celebrity this week who is facing backlash due to the fact that she currently considers her multi-million dollar home a “jail” and she misses going out. According to Alicia Lee from CNN, “ One thing that I’ve learned from being in quarantine is that people—this is like being in jail, is what it is,” she said. “It’s mostly because I’ve been wearing the same clothes for 10 days and everyone in here is gay.”, this statement immediately received backlash from most people due to the simple fact that a multi-millionaire is complaining about her current living situation while the rest of the world is attempting to figure out how they will financially maneuver the coming months. It has become apparent that the disconnect between celebrities and the general population continues to grow especially now since celebrities have an abundant amount of time to complain about things that matter so little to most.
