Huntington Beach Counter Protest Sparks Outrage Across California.

As California continues with its stay at home orders mandating that everyone should social distance and avoid public areas as much as possible, the city of Huntington Beach decided it was within their rights to be able to go and enjoy the beach ultimately, defying the orders set by Governor Gavin Newsom. This started a frenzy on social media especially twitter where everyone started to shame the city council of Huntington Beach for being so reckless and careless about the people living there. The protest held within the city were to send a clear message to the state that the people want to be able to live their lives in the way that they see fit and the government themselves have no right to impede on that. According to Matt Szabo from the Los Angeles Times, “ The only consistency those counter-protesters have is they want us to follow the governor, “Wagner said. “They don’t want us to do what we think is best for the people of Orange County... I do believe that the local leadership in any particular country is better positioned than Sacramento to know the reality on the ground. I’ve got to tell you, what works or doesn’t work in Modoc Country is different than what worlds or doesn’t work in Los Angeles County, is different than what worlds or doesn’t work in Orange County.” Only in the coming days and weeks will we find out if the cases in Covid-19 will rise in Huntington Beach and Orange Country in general and this will ultimately tell us if Huntington’s Beach policy to open the beaches back up for the public to enjoy was worth it or not.
