Everyone Go Home!

With the on going spread of Covid-19, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti alongside California Governor Gavin Newsom both issued to closing of non-vital businesses as well as a stay at home moratorium which advised citizens to shelter within their own homes in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus. In order to ease the ongoing flow of individuals entering hospitals searching for medical care involving Covid-19, the moratorium was put into place in the hopes of easing the flows of people entering these buildings. Since all non-essential workers were told to stay put within their homes, many people in Los Angeles believed this was the perfect time to go out to both the beaches and hiking trails since they had nothing better to do in their own homes. This obvious gathering of people was quickly noticed by city officials and action was taken to stop this problem. According to Richard Winton, from the Los Angeles Times “The crowds we saw at our beaches last weekend were unacceptable,” County Supervisor Janice Hahn said in a statement. “In order to save lives, beaches in L.A. County will be temporarily closed. I understand that this is a huge sacrifice for everyone who enjoys going to our beaches. But we cannot risk another sunny weekend with crowds at the beach spreading this virus. This closure is temporary and we can always reopen these beaches when it is safe to do so.”, in an attempt to control crowds and save lives Los Angeles officials had to close public spaces which were still attracting people. Obviously, people found this move by the city somewhat outrages as they wanted to spend their time in quarantine outside which is technically not considered quarantine. This move by the city is obviously a good one as it attempts to help everyone avoid catching the coronavirus and hopefully saves lives in the process.
